Giovanni Scapecchi (born on December 3, 1977 in Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy) began the musical studies of piano and then continued those of organ, improvisation and organ composition with Wijnand van de Pol, Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini, Liuwe Tamminga, Jósef Serafin, Julian Gembalski, Franco Paturzo, Franco Pacioselli and in 2001 he took a degree with full marks at the State Conservatory of Music in Perugia.

From several years his music interest turned mainly to the composition. In 2005 he got a full marked degree in composition at the Music Conservatory of Perugia. Then, in 2007, he also got a specialization degree in composition studies of the St. Cecilia National Academy in Rome under the guidance of Azio Corghi. In 2008 he graduated in Composition and applied Music with full marks and honours and in 2009 he got the Music Teaching qualification. He has attended master classes in composition with Stefano Gervasoni, Giacomo Manzoni and Hubert Stuppner. He also followed the composition courses at the Chigiana Academy of Siena with Azio Corghi and Mauro Bonifacio and those of film music and cinematography with Nicola Piovani, Luis Bacalov, Emidio Greco, Andrea and Antonio Frazzi.

He was selected for the “De Musica” project of Nuova Consonanza as a student at the composition course given by Brice Pauset and Joshua Fineberg in Rome, by the Cortona Contemporary Music Festival in cooperation with the University of Kansas (USA) and by The Venice Biennale for the masterclass of composition during the 51st International Festival of Contemporary Music.

Recently he wrote the opening theme and musics for the Brazil World Cup live daily broadcast on Radio Rai 1 and for the programmes “A ritmo di goal” and “Diario azzurro”.

He realized also the opening theme and the soundtracks for the commemorative collection The Great War and Second World War, commented by Carlo Lucarelli and presented by historian Paolo Mieli. Both of them are produced by Rai Storia and Rai Eri in collaboration with Il Corriere della Sera and La Gazzetta dello Sport.

For Rai Storia he also composed the opening theme of the program Gli Archivi del 900, a section documentary hosted by Paolo Mieli and belong to the programme Correva l’anno.

Spanish Royal Foundation “Atarazanas” based in Seville designates Giovanni Scapecchi to compose a musical work, Magallanes, on a libretto written by José Manuel Núñez De La Fuente. The project that aims to celebrate the circumnavigation of the globe by Magellan involves the cities belonging to the Magellan network. The Opera will be premiered in October 2017 and it will be made into an international production film. The work was also presented to the Holy Father and received his appreciation as Magellan made the first ecumenical journey in the history of the Catholic Church.

From 2008 to 2014 he taught Score Reading at the “Francesco Cilea” Conservatory of Music in Reggio Calabria, from 2014 to 2018 he was at the “Antonio Buzzolla” Conservatory of Adria and from 2018 to 2021 at the “Bruno Maderna” Conservatory of Music of Cesena. Since the academic year 2021/2022 he’s been teaching Score Reading at the “Francesco Morlacchi” Conservatory of Music in Perugia where he also holds the position of Erasmus Coordinator.
